In 1996 I spent some time helping Don in his new trumpet shop. I was then and still
am very impressed with how perfect he wants every detail of his trumpets. He wants to
make every part by hand himself in order to guarantee the Miles quality. He told me that if
he would purchase and use parts he didn't make himself, his trumpets would only be as good as
the purchased parts. He is never tired of trying to make better trumpets. I only regret
that I can't take the bus and be at his shop in an hour to try his new models.
I enjoy playing his trumpet in the German Army District Band III in Erfurt. It has a very good sound for different styles, excellent intonation and great valves, a trumpet to trust in during a solo. Of course it is not a trumpet on which I don't have to practice any more, but it is more fun to practice with a Miles trumpet.

Don Miles is one of this century's genius trumpet manufacturers. His "Miles" brand trumpets are handmade right down to the pearl that is placed into the finger buttons. I have to say without question Don's trumpets are some of the finest handmade trumpets ever produced. The quality and care that goes into each instrument ensures a custom fit to each individuals needs and playing characteristics. Sure, a violinist can buy a $1200.00 violin, but you would never see a professional playing one. The instrument they are playing is most likely in the tens of thousands or even $100,000 or more. The simple answer is: quality is the most important thing you can get for your dollar. Basically, you get what you pay for most times. So...why are trumpet players different? When you own a Miles trumpet you own a trumpet that has been made to the highest of standards and has been play tested by some of this nations greatest orchestral and solo performers, not to mention a lifetime guarantee for the instrument to it's original owner.

Great trumpets, excellent craftsmanship, a beautiful sound and really easy to play. What else would you want in a trumpet? Don will not sell anything that is not just absolutely perfect. The stuff he throws away is better than most of the stuff you buy from other places. I spent three times what a Miles costs just to get my daughter a decent violin. So why wouldn't a pro get the very best?
